BOTOX SIDE EFFECTS, DANGERS, AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

Botox, the magical injection that will make you 20 years younger with very minimal effort, has become extremely popular in recent years.

In fact, botox is no longer being used by women only, there are a lot of men that wanted to get a younger looker skin and chose to use botox as well.

We are not against it, do what works for you, but here on estheticshub, we are fans of education. Before (or if you already are) getting botox injections, we highly recommend that you at least know the side effects that you might suffer from.

Disclaimer: this is not intended to be medical advice.

So after receiving hundreds of emails from our readers, we’ve decided to finally write this post. By the end of it, you will know everything there is to know about the side-effects / risks involved in getting botox, and you will be able to make an informed decision.

We will also discuss a few botox alternatives that are natural, so stay tuned!

BOTOX: THE GOOD, BAD AND THE VERY UGLY

Let’s start with the good, clearly, we all want to look younger and have beautiful, wrinkle-free skin.

If you’re already tried red light therapy treatments , micro-needling, and high quality anti aging serums , yet still are not happy with how your skin looks, botox can be the solution.

Lets be honest, botox is extremely effective in getting rid of wrinkles. As discussed in detail in this post by the US National Library of Medicine, botox is effective in getting rid of wrinkles and fine lines.

However, botox is not effective at all against other signs of aging, such as pigmentation issues (age spots, dark spots, acne scars), and dry skin. So, it is definitely not the ‘end all be all’ for anti-aging. If you are suffering from pigmentation issues, we highly recommend reading about led light therapy, which is a natural, less invasive treatment.

Botox is also very expensive. It is. Theres no way around it. We (the staff here at estheticshub) personally know people that spend tens of thousands of dollars in a year for their botox treatment.

The problem is botox usually lasts anywhere between 3-4 months, depending on how lucky you are (and how good your skin is). Doesnt sound bad, does it? 3-4 month is plenty of time…

WELL, some people become addicted to botox, as described in this article by the guardian magazine. Thats when the problems start; instead of getting a treatment every 3-4 months, you end up getting botox shots on every new little wrinkle that pops.

Which will cost you a lot of money.

Thats one of the main reasons we are not huge fans of botox, it encourages people to believe that wrinkles are terrible and you simply can’t have them, which is not the case in our opinion. Sure nobody wants deep wrinkles all over the face, but a few little wrinkles, on the other hand, is nothing to be obsessed about.

Now lets dive into the real problem, the side effects.

BOTOX: WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS, AND HOW BAD CAN THEY GET

When it comes to the side effects caused by botox (also known as Botulinum toxin), we have done very thorough research.

The research was done by reading medical articles (which we will mention in this post) and collecting personal experiences from our readers and friends and family who have used botox to better understand what can go wrong. Here’s what we’ve found.

MILD SIDE-EFFECTS OF BOTOX

  • Bruising
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Upset stomach and nausea
  • Droopy Eyelids
  • Symptoms that are flu-like
  • Drooling
  • Pain and swelling of the areas treated

Most of these will go away with time, however, they can become an issue if you already have underlying conditions or if you are not a very healthy person in general.

SEVERE SIDE-EFFECTS OF BOTOX

  • Central nervous system toxicity
  • speech disorder
  • Coma
  • nystagmus (vision condition)
  • Death (rare)

Here’s the scary part, and we quote:

” The FDA has reported adverse events after BoNT injection affecting nervous system far from the initial site of injection such as speech disorder, nystagmus, restless leg syndrome, and even coma. Central nervous system involvement included 23.5% of serious and 24.9% of non-serious events ” taken from a medical article about botox, in the NCBI.

As for death of people who have taken botox, heres a quote from the FDA directly:” Death can happen as a complication if you have severe problems with swallowing or breathing after treatment with BOTOX or BOTOX Cosmetic. ” directly from the FDA website.

While rare, some have developed severe side effects (like the ones mentioned above) by using botox.

Botox, or botulinum Toxin, is in fact a toxin. So when using botox, we are injecting toxins to our muscles, thats just the simple fact.

THE BOTTOM LINE

We didn’t mean this post to promote an ‘anti-botox’ ideology, but simply to inform users and make sure we are all aware of the side effects or possible side effects.

Please be careful and be mindful when getting botox injections. Like the old saying goes

‘ everything in moderation’.

All that being said, we highly recommend that you try less invasive ways, ( more natural treatments ), before turning to botox.

If you are already getting botox injections,  red light therapy treatments can help you with prolonging the effects of your botox injections, which means less botox and more money in your pocket.
